Accessibility statement
How accessible this site and our published documents are, what we test, what still does not meet the standard, and how to tell us when something blocks you.

Our commitment
Accessibility is treated as a fault class here, not a feature request. A barrier that stops someone using a resource is handled with the same urgency as a broken download, and is answered within one business day.
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 at Level AA across the site and in the documents we publish. Much of the catalogue is printable, so the commitment extends to paper: contrast that survives photocopying, rule weights that stay visible, and layouts that do not depend on colour to convey meaning.
Conformance status
This site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Partially conformant means that most of the site meets the standard and that some content does not yet, listed openly below. Our last full audit was completed on 28 May 2026, combining automated testing with manual keyboard and screen-reader review.
| Method | Detail | Last run |
|---|---|---|
| Keyboard-only navigation | Every page traversed without a pointing device, including the search overlay and filters | 28 May 2026 |
| Screen reader | NVDA on Windows, VoiceOver on macOS and iOS | 28 May 2026 |
| Contrast | All text and interface elements, in both light and dark themes | 14 July 2026 |
| Zoom and reflow | Up to 400 percent, and at 320 CSS pixels wide | 28 May 2026 |
| Print output | Greyscale legibility of every published PDF | 24 June 2026 |
What we have built in
- A skip link to the main content, first in the tab order on every page.
- Semantic landmarks and headings, so the page can be navigated by structure.
- Visible focus indicators on every interactive element, in both themes.
- Full keyboard operation, including the search overlay, filters and dialogues, with focus trapped inside open panels and returned when they close.
- A keyboard shortcuts panel, reachable from any page by pressing ?.
- Filter and search results announced to assistive technology as they change.
- Text contrast of at least 4.5:1, and at least 7:1 for body text in the light theme.
- Support for reduced-motion preferences: animation and smooth scrolling are disabled when the system requests it.
- Forms with visible labels, described errors, and no reliance on placeholder text alone.
- A dark theme designed for contrast rather than appearance, and honouring the system preference by default.
Known issues
We publish these rather than waiting until they are fixed.
| Issue | Affects | Workaround | Target |
|---|---|---|---|
| Four older PDFs lack a full tag structure | Screen-reader users reading the file rather than the page | Ask us and we will send an accessible version within one business day | September 2026 |
| The embedded map on the contact page is a third-party component we cannot fully remediate | Keyboard and screen-reader users | The full address, phone number and directions are in text beside the map | Under review |
| Two comparison tables scroll horizontally on very narrow screens | Users below 360 CSS pixels | Rotate the device, or ask us for the data as a list | August 2026 |
| A3 wall templates assume a printer most households do not have | Anyone printing at home | An A4 tiled version is included in the same file | Complete for new templates |
Reporting a barrier
If something here stops you doing what you came to do, tell us. Include the page address, the record identifier if there is one, and what you were using — browser, assistive technology, device. Contact info@tooranceat.digital or call +1 (613) 555-0184 during business hours.
We acknowledge accessibility reports within one business day and give a fix date or an explanation within five. If our response is not satisfactory, ask for it to be escalated to the director of editorial standards, who reviews every open accessibility issue monthly.
Alternative formats
We will supply any published resource in an alternative format at no charge: tagged and reflowable PDF, plain text, large print, or a version with the colour removed for high-contrast printing. Requests are usually fulfilled within one business day. Where a resource is used in a classroom, we can supply a bulk set in the format a school needs.
